Year 1, Semester 1: Fall 2005

Neysa Pranger, from the Straphangers Campaign, an organization that fights for improvements in the subway on behalf of New York City subway riders, came to speak to the students about the subway. Neysa came in on Nov.30th, 2005 and informed the students of subway statistics, such as the slowest train (N) and the fastest, most frequent train (6). She started a discussion about what is most important in the Subway system. Most of our students thought that the frequency of trains coming, safety, and cleanliness were the most important factors when waiting for a train or bus. Students got to share their projects with her, and she was very impressed.

On December 19, 2005, students took a field trip to NYU's Interactive Telecommunication Program's Final Winter Show. This was a display of projects from graduate students studying in this department, which combines art and technology, or new media. SoBRO TEC students had a blast looking around and trying out different projects. Below are some pictures from this event.

Year 1, Semester 2: Spring 2006

Dennis Crowley and Alex Rainert, employees of Google Inc., came to speak about the product that they designed and developed called Dodgeball. Dodgeball is a social software application that links people to their friends through the cellular phone. This project was a perfect mix of cell phone technology and Internet technology and was fascinating for the students to learn about.

On May 9th, 2006, students took a field trip to NYU's Interactive Telecommunication Program's Final Spring Show. This was a display of projects from graduate students studying in this department, which combines art and technology, or new media. SoBRO TEC students had a blast looking around and trying out different projects. Some students were starting to figure out how these projects were made, based on their own experience with technology. Below are some pictures from this event.

Year 1, Summer 2006

Over the summer, nine students were chosen to participate in a six-week, intensive summer course. The students interned at various technology and multimedia companies around New York City twice a week, took a field trip once a week and learned Life Skills and more Technology skills, including basic and advanced Microsoft Excel. The following are pictures from some of their field trips. The field trips included the New York Hall of Science, Columbia University, Sony Wonder Technology Lab and the Museum of Moving Image.

Year 2, Semester 1: Fall 2006

On December 18, 2006, students again took a field trip to NYU's Interactive Telecommunication Program's Final Winter Show. This was another display of projects from graduate students studying in this department, which combines art and technology, or new media. SoBRO TEC students had a great time interacting with projects and figuring out how things work.

Year 2, Semester 2: Spring 2007

On May 9, 2007, students again took a field trip to NYU's Interactive Telecommunication Program's Final Spring Show. This was another display of projects from graduate students studying in this department, which combines art and technology. Each semester has new and different projects, so returning students were excited to see what has improved and changed from previous years, while new students were happy to interact the projects and visit the department for the first time.

Year 2, Summer 2007

Over the summer, seven students participated in the summer program, which included a Digital Video class at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program, Internships, and field trips. For field trips, the students went to the Museum of the Moving Image, Eyebeam, Chelsea Art Museum, and the Museum of Natural History. The following are some pictures from the Museum of Natural History, where students got to see the Mythic Creatures exhibit plus much more.

Year 3, Fall 2007

During the fall of the third year, students learned how to model 3D creations in Google Sketchup. Students were fortunate enough to get an inside tour of Google, led by Andrew Miller, Google programmer. On December 17th, 2007, they also took a trip to NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program to see graduate students' final projects in interactive art and media.
